Book series: Corpus Linguistics and Technology-Mediated Language Education in the AI Era

I´’m beyond excited to share that I will be co-editing a new book series for Applied Linguistics Press. The book series is Corpus Linguistics and Technology-Mediated Language Education in the AI Era.

As you know, Applied Linguistics Press is a scholar-led digital publisher promoting open science, fair practice, and wider access, offering monographs and collections with multimedia features, founded in 2023 by Prof Luke Plonsky and run by volunteers.

Corpus Linguistics and Technology-Mediated Language Education in the AI Era is a research-driven series that brings together scholarly work at the crossroads of corpus linguistics, language education, and AI-supported pedagogy. The series highlights studies that draw on verifiable data, transparent procedures, and reproducible practices to examine how corpora and AI tools can strengthen teaching and learning across varied global settings. Volumes showcase approaches that combine corpus evidence with emerging technologies to support teacher awareness, learner metacognition, classroom practice and academic integrity. The series foregrounds multilingual and multimodal learning, accessibility, culturally responsive teaching, and equity concerns such as English-dominance and bias.

Committed to open access, this series promotes reusable datasets, shareable code and clear research workflows to support open knowledge. It also offers insights relevant to low-resource environments and diverse educational traditions. By bringing together leading scholars and innovative projects, the series provides a trusted platform for advancing responsible, ethical human–AI collaboration and for strengthening methodological rigour in applied linguistics.

Applied Linguistics Press promotes inclusive, accessible, open-access research in applied linguistics, ensuring worldwide availability and supporting knowledge that contributes to broader societal benefit.

The book series editors are Prof Pascual Pérez-Paredes and Prof Qing Ma.

Building critical literacies in post-digital language classrooms, SusTech, China

Abolutely delighted to give a keynote on the 8th CLE Conference on Teaching and Learning, at The Center for Language Education (CLE) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) , Shenzhen on November 8, 2025

The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Shenzhen has achieved #2 ranking among the world’s young universities in the Nature Index 2021.

On a personal note, it’s been so special to reunite with former U. Cambridge former MPhil and Phd students: Dr Simin Zheng, Dr Pu Shi, Dr Jinshi Shao and Dr Danyang Zhang.

Nothing is more satisfying that seeing your former students thrive both personally and academically.

Building critical literacies in post-digital language classrooms

Prof Pascual Pérez-Paredes, Keynote Speaker

This talk argues for a reorientation of educational priorities: from technocentric training in Artificial intelligence (AI) tool usage to fostering the capacity to interrogate the sociotechnical systems that shape our digital realities. Drawing on recent research with higher education students in Europe, I will explore how learners interact with generative AI, what assumptions they hold about its authority, and how it influences their academic practices. The talk will examine how large language models challenge traditional notions of authorship, academic originality, and teacher agency. It will also discuss how digital literacies have evolved from functional ICT skills to encompass ethics and participation in algorithmic cultures. The talk advocates for a pedagogy that not only integrates AI but critically questions it.
