English Language at the University of Glasgow invites applications for a number of scholarships to conduct postgraduate research. We offer world-leading expertise in modern English language and linguistics, English historical linguistics, Scots and English in Scotland, and medieval English studies. We also have access to an extensive interdisciplinary network, linking us to a wide range of subjects, both in the Colleges of Arts and Social Sciences and beyond. The University of Glasgow is part of a consortium of eight Higher Education institutions which has been awarded funding from the AHRC to support postgraduate studentships and training in the Arts and Humanities in Scotland. Under the Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) scheme, the consortium – comprised of the Universities of Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh, St Andrews, Stirling, Strathclyde and Glasgow School of Art – will consider applications for doctoral studentship awards in the majority of Arts and Humanities subjects. ESRC-funded Masters and PhDs
The University of Glasgow is a member institution of the ESRC Scottish Graduate School of Social Science Doctoral Training Centre. The University welcomes applications for ESRC 1+3 (Masters + PhD) and +3 (doctoral) studentships in the following areas: Social and Applied Investigations in Language (SAIL) and Language Sciences. The SAIL pathway focuses on the mechanisms and patterns of language variation in communities; the emergence, negotiation and contestation of ideologies and identity-formation in discourse and interaction; and group and individual responses to language use in institutional settings such as education, health and the legal system. The Language Sciences pathway focuses on training in techniques from cognitive science, such as computational modelling and experimental design. Carnegie/Caledonian PhD Scholarships
Nominations are sought for the Carnegie/Caledonian PhD Scholarships 2015-16. Candidates must be nominated by the prospective supervisor of the PhD project, who must be an academic member of staff of a Scottish university, at the level of Professor, Reader, or (Senior) Lecturer.
